Starting School at Hutton Rudby
We completely understand that the process of starting a new school can be a really challenging and stressful time! Here at Hutton Rudby, we have lots of experience with managing new arrivals, no matter how young or old they may be.
Our induction process starts as soon as we know that a child is starting school with us. We have a thorough system in place to make sure that each child settles quickly. We are happy to welcome children to the school for transition or taster days before they start here full time.
The Summer before children start in Reception, we have a full transition system which enables them to get to know their new teacher and classmates.
We hope your initial queries will be answered through the information here on our website, however do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Our Classes
Children are taught in classes according to age. They begin their school lives in Reception Class, where they are in the Foundation stage of the National Curriculum.
Key Stage 1 (KS1) of the National Curriculum is followed between the ages of 5 and 7. These year groups are called Year 1 and Year 2 (Y1 and Y2).
In Year 1, children complete a phonics assessment. This can be retaken in Year 2.
After Year 2, the children follow the Key Stage 2 (KS2) of the National Curriculum whilst they are in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6).
In Year 4, children complete a multiplication assessment. At the end of Key Stage 2, children take the Key Stage 2 Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs) before moving into secondary school. How the school perform in these tests is reportable to parents and governors. Our most recent results can be found here.
At the end of Year 6, we bid our children a fond farewell as they move on to secondary school.
