Year 6 2018/19
Welcome to Year 6!
Thank you for visiting our Year 6 page for the Class of 2019. Year 6 is an extremely exciting year at school as the children embark upon their final year in the primary phase of their school careers.
In Year 6, the children are presented with a fantastic range of opportunities. Our topics this year include: Fallen Fields, Fantastic Beasts & the Magical World of Harry Potter, Darwin Delights and ID.
Fallen Fields
This academic year was kick-started with a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the WW1 Battlefields in France and Belgium. We spent four days exploring Ypres, Passchendale, the Somme, Thepival amongst many other monumental sights from the Great War and commemorating the efforts of those who fought for their country between 1914 and 1918. Since returning from our trip, we have been learning about: the main countries and empires who fought in WW1 and how they became involved; the way bravery and contributions to the war were celebrated; how different modes of transport, including the use of animals impacted on the war; what life in the trenches was like for the different sides, and how technology within trench warfare changed over the four years; the Christmas Truce; and of course, remembrance day on the turn of the centenary since the 1918 Armistice Day.
Fantastic Beasts & The Magical World of Harry Potter
Earlier on this year, we discussed what we would like our next topic to be, and thus, the idea for this topic was born! After Christmas, we will be delving deep into the mystical, magical world of Harry Potter with a particular focus on the Fantastic Beasts (at the children’s request!). This topic will be very much lend by the children’s interests and enthusiasm. One of our focuses will be creating our own dragons and other fantastic beasts.
